Exploring Tech Solutions for Ghana’s Digital Future
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam George, began a weeklong tour of tech companies to promote digital inclusion. Visiting firms like Complete Farmer and mPharma, he aimed to assess industry needs and strengthen government-tech collaboration for Ghana’s digital transformation.
At Complete Farmer, George explored smart farming solutions to boost productivity and food security. He emphasized creating farming materials in local languages, addressing accessibility for rural farmers, as over 50% of Ghanaians primarily speak indigenous languages, per the Ghana Statistical Service (2021).
During his stop at mPharma, a healthcare tech firm, George pledged partnerships with the Ministry of Health to scale operations. This move targets Ghana’s healthcare access gap, where only 58% of the population can access essential services, according to the World Bank (2023).
The tour, the first of its kind by a Communications Minister, also included IT Consortium and Apps Mobile, highlighting technology’s role in economic growth. George concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting tech startups and creating an enabling environment for innovation to thrive.
