The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has imposed a curfew in Sampa Township, located in the Jaman North District of Ghana’s Bono Region, to address escalating tensions stemming from chieftaincy disputes. Effective October 24, 2024, the curfew restricts movement from 10 pm to 6 am daily until further notice. This action follows recommendations from the Bono Regional Security Council aimed at maintaining order in the area.

The curfew comes amid ongoing chieftaincy tensions in Sampa, with previous instances of unrest, including a similar curfew in September 2024. The government has made efforts to resolve these longstanding disputes and is urging local chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents to exercise restraint, using peaceful means to address their grievances.

To reinforce security, authorities have imposed a strict ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the township. Those found with such items face arrest and prosecution. The government’s statement emphasized the need for peace in the region, appealing to residents to work together to ensure stability and harmony.
