Minister Unveils Incentive for Clean Communities
Meta Description: Communities in Ghana’s Central Region will receive developmental projects as rewards for maintaining high sanitation standards.
To tackle sanitation-related diseases, the Central Regional Minister, Okyere Panyin, has introduced an award scheme to incentivize communities that uphold hygiene and cleanliness. The initiative, he explained, aims to create long-term solutions to sanitation issues that have plagued the region.
Speaking at Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration in Assin North District, the minister emphasized the significance of sanitation in public health. He noted that communities that consistently maintain high hygiene standards would be rewarded with developmental projects.
“We are facing serious health challenges due to poor sanitation,” Mr. Panyin stated. “To address this, we will recognize and support communities that actively combat sanitation problems.”
The minister urged traditional leaders and stakeholders to collaborate in fostering a culture of cleanliness. He highlighted the region’s recent cholera outbreak, which has claimed nearly 20 lives since October, as a stark reminder of the need for action.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve public health and infrastructure. By linking community rewards to sanitation efforts, the minister hopes to drive meaningful and lasting change in the Central Region.
