Ghanaian socialite Sister Debby, known formally as Debora Vanessa, has publicly criticized the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, labeling him a hypocrite over his recent support for Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill. The criticism followed Asiedu Nketiah’s remarks targeting President Akufo-Addo for his reluctance to sign the bill into law.

On X, Sister Debby highlighted a past incident involving Asiedu Nketiah, when he wore a women’s fur coat during an official trip to Germany in 2015. She argued that his choice of attire contradicts his current advocacy for the anti-LGBTQ bill, which includes clauses targeting behaviors like cross-dressing. “A Ghanaian man who in 2015 wore a women’s coat during an official visit to Germany wants an anti-LGBTQ bill that will jail people for cross-dressing to become law. Hypocrisy!” she wrote.

Asiedu Nketiah recently addressed the anti-LGBTQ bill during an NDC campaign event in Kumasi, accusing the current administration of hesitating on the issue. He stated that the NDC introduced the bill to align with the views of religious groups opposed to LGBTQ+ practices.

Initially introduced by Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George, the bill has sparked intense public debate and is now awaiting a ruling from Ghana’s Supreme Court after prolonged discussions without presidential approval.
