Ghana’s Vice President assured six new stadia to be commissioned
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a significant achievement in Ghana’s sports infrastructure development, revealing that six out of the planned ten sports stadia across the country are now ready for commissioning. In addition to these larger projects, the government has prioritized community-level sports development, with 153 astro turfs established in communities nationwide, a substantial increase from the three that existed when the government took office.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of not only constructing but also maintaining these facilities. He urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other stakeholders to prioritize maintenance, recognizing that it is crucial for ensuring the long-term impact of these infrastructure investments on sports development in Ghana.
The newly constructed stadia boast international-standard facilities, including football pitches, 8-lane athletics tracks, tennis and basketball courts, conference rooms, and IT and skills training centers for the youth. As Ghana gears up to host the African Games in 2023, these state-of-the-art facilities showcase the nation’s capability and underline its commitment to becoming a hub for sports excellence in the region.
