Special Prosecutor Probes SML’s Contract Misconduct
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) raided the offices of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) in Osu and Tema on June 10, 2025. The raid, backed by search warrants and National Security, is part of a probe into a $500 million contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The OSP is investigating possible financial misconduct tied to the deal.
The contract, signed under former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, was meant to monitor petroleum and mineral revenues. However, concerns arose about inflated costs and a lack of transparency. The OSP is searching SML’s servers for electronic records to uncover details of the agreement, which has been labeled suspicious by investigators.
Three SML directors were detained during the raid at the Tema office, though their names remain undisclosed. The operation follows a lawsuit by five civil society groups seeking to recover GH¢1 billion already paid to SML. The groups claim the contract was unfair and cost Ghana heavily.
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni reported the raid, noting the probe is at an advanced stage. The OSP’s actions signal a strong push to tackle corruption in high-value contracts. Former Minister Ofori-Atta is also a suspect in this case and faces related charges.
The raid has raised hopes among Ghanaians for accountability in public deals. The OSP is expected to release more findings as the investigation continues, with possible legal action against those involved in the controversial contract.
