Sokode SHS Closed Indefinitely After Student-Community Clash
The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has temporarily closed Sokode Senior High Technical School following a violent clash between students and residents of the Sokode community on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
According to a teacher, the confrontation began on Friday, February 21, when some ‘notorious’ students allegedly entered the community without permission and engaged in disputes, leading to injuries among local residents.

In retaliation, about ten young residents stormed the school premises on Sunday seeking revenge. However, the over 1,000-strong student population clashed with the intruders, overpowering them. The confrontation resulted in injuries on both sides and damage to school property, including a staff member’s vehicle.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, quickly intervened, deploying security officers to restore calm. After an emergency meeting with school authorities and community leaders, REGSEC ordered the indefinite closure of the school.

Buses were arranged to transport students back to their respective destinations. Students from Greater Accra were taken directly to Accra, while others headed to Ho, the regional capital, to continue their journeys.
The teacher confirmed that students will not return until the next academic term, and this term’s examinations will be postponed.

Meanwhile, injured individuals are receiving medical treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital, with no fatalities reported. Most of the injured are expected to be discharged soon, as no severe cases have been recorded.
