Daniel Yeboah Faces Court Over Drug Trafficking
On July 31, 2025, the Western Central Region Police Command, Asankragwa Division, arrested 23-year-old Daniel Yeboah at the Samreboi-Tanokrom snap checkpoint. Yeboah, aboard a tricycle (Pragia), was found with two travel bags containing 66 compressed parcels suspected to be Indian hemp, valued at approximately GH¢33,000.
Yeboah claimed a woman in Wenchi paid him GH¢5,000 to deliver the parcels to Mumuni Camp near Samreboi. The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the alleged woman. They are urging the public to provide information to aid the probe, emphasizing their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
The suspect is in custody and scheduled to appear before the Tarkwa Circuit Court on August 4, 2025, facing charges under the Narcotic Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019). The operation follows recent anti-crime efforts, including arrests for illegal mining and vehicle theft in Tarkwa, reflecting heightened police vigilance.
The seizure of suspected cannabis, a major narcotic in Ghana’s Western Region, aligns with the Narcotics Control Commission’s 2025 report of 1,200 drug-related arrests nationwide. The case highlights ongoing challenges with drug smuggling routes through rural checkpoints like Samreboi-Tanokrom, a known transit point.
Authorities are coordinating with the Drug Law Enforcement Unit to analyze the parcels and trace the supply chain. The Regional Police Command’s call for public cooperation underscores efforts to dismantle drug networks, protecting communities from the social and economic harms of illicit trade.
