Teacher Sentenced to 10 Years for GH₵238K Fraud via GhanaPay


A 36-year-old teacher at Freso SDA JHS in the Bekwai Municipality has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor for stealing GH₵238,550 from Bosomefreho Rural Bank Limited using the GhanaPay app.

The convict, John Ankomah Boateng, who had only GH₵2.23 in his account, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Apietu.

According to Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, the fraudulent transactions occurred between February 9 and February 26, 2024, and were reported to the Ashanti South Regional CID on February 28. Boateng was arrested on March 13, 2024 and later confessed, revealing he had transferred the stolen funds to friends and a travel agent.

He sent:

  • GH₵10,000 to Isaac
  • GH₵5,000 to Kwaku
  • GH₵20,000 to Duah
  • GH₵5,000 to Neymar
  • GH₵40,000 to a travel agent for visa processing

Following investigations, Boateng was charged and convicted, reinforcing the legal consequences of digital financial fraud.
