17-Year-Old Beaten Over Theft Allegation

A 17-year-old JHS pupil was beaten to death in Gushegu, Northern Region, on August 15, 2025, after being accused of stealing a welding machine. The victim’s family claims Adramani (Enumode), the boy’s uncle, and two men, Kpanani Zaachi and Gbambu Yapalsu, dragged him from his home and assaulted him to extract a confession.

The boy’s body was found days later along the Gushegu-Yendi highway. The welding machine was recovered with another individual in Yendi, raising doubts about the accusation. Zaachi and another suspect are in custody, though police have not released an official statement on the arrests.

The victim’s father, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, a former parliamentary candidate, prioritized his son’s burial but expressed reluctance to pursue immediate prosecution. The incident, reported by Crime Check TV Gh, highlights ongoing mob justice issues, with 12 similar cases in the Northern Region in 2025.

The Gushegu police are investigating the events leading to the mob action, focusing on the roles of Adramani, Zaachi, and Yapalsu. The case has sparked community outrage, with calls for stricter measures against vigilante violence, which claimed 47 lives nationwide in 2024.
