17-Year-Old Beaten Over Theft Allegation
A 17-year-old JHS pupil was beaten to death in Gushegu, Northern Region, on August 15, 2025, after being accused of stealing a welding machine. The victim’s family claims Adramani (Enumode), the boy’s uncle, and two men, Kpanani Zaachi and Gbambu Yapalsu, dragged him from his home and assaulted him to extract a confession.
The boy’s body was found days later along the Gushegu-Yendi highway. The welding machine was recovered with another individual in Yendi, raising doubts about the accusation. Zaachi and another suspect are in custody, though police have not released an official statement on the arrests.
The victim’s father, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, a former parliamentary candidate, prioritized his son’s burial but expressed reluctance to pursue immediate prosecution.
