16-Year-Old Mother Detained with Newborn Over Unpaid Hospital Bill

A 16-year-old mother and her newborn baby boy are being held at the VRA Hospital in Akosombo, Eastern Region, due to an unpaid hospital bill of GHS 2,528.40.

The teenager, abandoned by the baby’s father and evicted by her sister, faced her pregnancy with minimal support. She was taken in by a Good Samaritan in Akosombo, who assisted her during antenatal care.

Following complications during labor, the young mother underwent a cesarean section and successfully delivered a healthy baby. However, her inability to pay the hospital bill has led to their detention.

Reindolf Botchway, a concerned community member, has appealed for financial support to settle the bill. Background checks reveal that the teenager comes from an impoverished family and cannot afford the payment.

Supporters wishing to help can contribute to ensure the young mother and her baby are released and can begin their lives under better circumstances.
