Sam George Announces Data Bundle Boost Starting July 1

Ghana’s telecom companies MTN, Telecel, and AirtelTigo (AT) will increase the value of their data bundles starting July 1, 2025, Communications Minister Sam George announced on June 10, 2025, in Accra. The new plan, set after talks with telecom CEOs, aims to give customers more data for the same price.

AirtelTigo will add 10% more data to all bundles. For example, its GH¢400 bundle, which now gives 195GB, will offer 236GB. Telecel will also raise data by 10%, with its GH¢400 bundle jumping from 90GB to 250GB. These changes will help users get more internet without paying extra.

MTN, the biggest network, will boost all bundles by 15%. Its popular GH¢399 bundle, previously cut to GH¢350 with 92.88GB, will return to 214GB for GH¢399. The minister said July 1 gives telcos time to update their systems for the new data amounts.

Sam George praised the telecoms for agreeing to the changes, even though it costs them more. He noted that tests by the National Communications Authority in 2024 showed no issues with data billing, ensuring customers get what they pay for. Quarterly checks will start in 2025 to keep services fair.

The move is part of a push to make the internet more affordable in Ghana. The government is also working to cut telecom taxes, which make up nearly 39% of data costs, to lower prices further. With these changes, Ghanaians can expect better value and improved internet access soon.
