The Fight Against Drug Trafficking at Ghana Ports


The Customs Division, in collaboration with stakeholders, has intercepted a shipment of opioid drugs valued at approximately GH₵20 million at Tema Port. The seized consignment included various drugs such as Tapentadol and Loperamide, with Niger identified as the intended destination. This operation highlights Ghana’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking.

During a press briefing, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh emphasized the government’s resolve to prevent Ghana from becoming a transit hub for opioids. He noted the president’s personal involvement in addressing the issue, underscoring its national importance.

Authorities have pledged to enhance monitoring and tighten regulations to curb illegal drug shipments. The government is determined to safeguard the country’s ports and ensure they are not exploited for illicit activities.

This seizure serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in West Africa, with Ghana taking proactive measures to protect its borders and citizens.
