Popular Nigerian musician, Teniola Apata, commonly known as Teni, recently opened up about the profound impact of a tragic event that occurred in her early childhood. In a candid conversation with Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh on the Tea With Tay podcast, Teni revealed that the trauma of witnessing her father’s assassination when she was just two years old has left an indelible mark on her life.

Teni’s father, Simeon Apata, a retired Nigerian army Brigadier-General, met a tragic end on January 8, 1995, when he was brutally assassinated by unknown gunmen in Lagos. The singer described her father as a disciplinarian who not only served in the military but also owned Apata Memorial High School and was known for his philanthropic endeavors.

The heartbreaking incident of losing her father at such a tender age, especially in such a violent manner, had a profound impact on Teni. She shared, “Growing up with my father passing at such a young age, the trauma of losing my father at a young age affected me. You know, him being assassinated in the presence of all of us and all that stuff. I was 2 at the time.”

The trauma she experienced from witnessing her father’s assassination left her with trust issues and a void of not having a father figure in her life. Teni revealed that the gunmen had entered their house with the sole purpose of taking her father’s life.

Despite the enduring pain and loss, Teni emphasized that her father would forever remain her hero. This poignant revelation offers a glimpse into the profound impact that tragic events can have on a person’s life, even when they achieve great success later on. Teni’s resilience and strength in the face of adversity continue to inspire her fans and admirers.
