A tense atmosphere has settled over the Muslim community of Anweaso in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, after the mysterious disappearance of a 25-year-old woman, Danjuma Laliatu. The young woman went missing after an altercation with Kwadwo Ahenfie, a neighboring farmer, over a boundary dispute on October 7, 2024.
Family members revealed that Laliatu returned home on the day of the incident with multiple injuries, alleging she had been attacked by Ahenfie during a heated confrontation. She claimed to have fought back and escaped but lost her wrist beads in the process. Despite her injuries, Laliatu insisted on returning to the farm to retrieve her belongings, but never returned home, sparking fear and concern within the community.
The situation escalated after Ahenfie was arrested by the Akwatia Police on October 8 but was released the same day. His family reportedly celebrated his release with a party, further infuriating Laliatu’s family and community members. They expressed disappointment in the local authorities, questioning the swift release of the suspect despite his alleged admission of assault.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Laliatu’s uncle, Alidu Issah, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take over the investigation and ensure justice for their missing daughter. He voiced the community’s frustration with the police’s handling of the case, stating, “We are disappointed in the police for releasing the suspect so easily. We want the IGP to take over this case and launch a proper investigation.”
