Ghanaian actress Tracey Boakye has shared her emotional disappointment over alleged ungratefulness and neglect from her junior colleague, Kyekyeku. In a heartfelt TikTok live session, Tracey recounted her efforts to support Kyekyeku’s career, only to be met with what she described as betrayal and indifference.
Tracey recalled discovering Kyekyeku in 2021 after a viral video showed him praising her in a movie scene. Deeply moved, she invited him to her home and gifted him $2,000 as a gesture of goodwill. At the time, her actions were widely discussed on social media, with some applauding her kindness while others criticised her for publicising the gesture.
Despite her support, Tracey expressed regret over how their relationship has unfolded. She revealed that Kyekyeku has since distanced himself, ignored her calls and messages, and refused to cooperate on her movie projects.
Tracey explained that she cast Kyekyeku in her hit film Stubborn Ghost, paying him for his role despite her earlier financial help. However, when plans for a sequel began, Kyekyeku allegedly failed to respond to her attempts to reach out, leaving her feeling hurt and betrayed.
“I invited Kyekyeku, a young actor I didn’t know, into my home because I wanted to support him. I gave him $2,000 from my heart, not for clout. Later, I cast him in my movie, and we made magic with Stubborn Ghost. But when I wanted to do a part two, he ignored me completely. I called, I texted, but nothing,” Tracey tearfully recounted during the live session.
She shared how his actions not only affected her personally but also disrupted her plans as a producer.
“What hurts the most is the deliberate nature of his behaviour. I paid him for his role, just like I pay any actor, but he has chosen to stay away. What if my livelihood depended solely on movies? How could I survive this kind of betrayal?” Tracey lamented.
The actress, visibly emotional, urged her followers to learn from her experience and to always value acts of kindness. She expressed her heartbreak over being mocked by critics who had warned her against helping Kyekyeku.
“They said, ‘Don’t help him,’ but I didn’t listen. Now, they’re laughing at me. I’m hurt, and I just want people to understand the importance of gratitude. If someone helps you, don’t repay them with neglect,” she said.
