A trader, Dorcas Twene Amankwa, 28, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for defrauding 97 people of GH¢402,000 by promising them jobs in Ghana’s security services. The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, convicted Amankwa of defrauding by false pretenses.
Prosecutors revealed that in 2021, Amankwa falsely claimed to work at Jubilee House and offered “protocol slots” for recruitment into the Ghana Immigration Service and National Fire Service. Victims, mobilized by complainant Michael Amoah, paid fees ranging from GH¢7,000 to GH¢15,000, which Amoah handed over to Amankwa.
Despite collecting a total of GH¢402,000, Amankwa failed to deliver on her promises. Following her arrest in May 2022, she admitted to collecting GH¢400,000 but was unable to assist police in locating an accomplice she identified as “Boadi.”
This case highlights the dangers of fraudulent schemes targeting job seekers, with authorities urging the public to remain vigilant against similar scams.
