U.S. Embassy in Somalia Warns of Imminent Terror Attacks at Mogadishu Airport.

The U.S. Embassy in Somalia has issued a security alert warning of credible intelligence suggesting imminent terror attacks targeting multiple locations in Somalia, including Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the embassy announced that all movements of U.S. personnel have been canceled until further notice due to the heightened threat level.

State Department Issues ‘Do Not Travel’ Advisory

The U.S. Department of State has reaffirmed its Level Four Travel Advisory (“Do Not Travel”) for Somalia, citing risks including terrorism, crime, civil unrest, health concerns, kidnapping, and piracy.

The statement emphasized the continued threat of terrorist attacks, warning that extremists may carry out bombings, kidnappings, and other assaults with little or no warning.

Potential Target Locations Include:

  • Airports and seaports
  • Government buildings and checkpoints
  • Hotels, restaurants, and shopping areas
  • Crowded public places and Western-frequented locations
  • Military and government convoys

U.S. Airstrike Targets Senior ISIS Leader in Somalia

Shortly after President Donald Trump’s return to office, the U.S. military conducted an airstrike against ISIS targets in Somalia in early February.

  • The airstrike was executed under President Trump’s directive in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the strike targeted a “Senior ISIS Attack Planner” and that no civilians were harmed.

U.S. Citizens Urged to Take Precautions

Given the escalating security threats, the U.S. government has limited ability to assist Americans in Somalia, as there is no permanent consular presence in the country.

The embassy advises all U.S. citizens in Somalia to:

  1. Remain vigilant and review personal security plans
  2. Notify a trusted individual of travel and movement plans
  3. Avoid large crowds, demonstrations, and public gatherings
  4. Be aware of potential attack methods, including car bombs, suicide bombers, and mortar fire

The U.S. Embassy in Somalia will continue to monitor the security situation and provide updates as necessary.
