Joshua Karry Arthur Held for Killing Professor Amedeke in Winneba

Police arrested Joshua Karry Arthur on May 22, 2025, in connection with the murder of Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeke, a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba. The suspect was apprehended at the victim’s residence in Essuokyir, Winneba, following a report by colleagues on May 21.

Investigators discovered blood stains in the lecturer’s home, leading to a heap of sand 23 meters away where Amedeke’s body was found buried. The remains were exhumed and sent to a morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Items belonging to Amedeke, including two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a Toyota Fortuner car key, were recovered from Arthur, providing critical evidence. Arthur allegedly used a heavy metal object to render the lecturer unconscious, slashed his throat, and removed his intestines.

Arthur, currently in custody, is assisting police with the ongoing investigation. The Central Regional Police Command has pledged to ensure justice, with Arthur expected to be arraigned soon.
