UK Policing Minister Dame Diana Johnson had her purse stolen during a speech at a police conference in Kenilworth. The theft occurred while she addressed senior police officers at the Police Superintendents’ Association (PSA) conference. The incident, which also involved the theft of belongings from a Home Office staff member, led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man from Coventry, who has since been released on bail.
Dame Diana was delivering a speech criticizing the Conservative Party for the rise in anti-social behavior and theft when the burglary took place. In her address, she discussed the government’s plans to boost neighborhood policing and tackle the ongoing issues of crime. She emphasized the need to restore respect for the police and the rule of law across the UK.
Warwickshire Police confirmed they are investigating the burglary, which took place between 11:00 BST and 13:15 on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson stated that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. Despite the theft, Dame Diana has continued with her official duties.
