Opening marks the first in a series of new embassies in Africa.
Ukraine has inaugurated its embassy in Accra, the capital of Ghana, signaling the commencement of its diplomatic presence in Africa. The announcement was made by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, who highlighted the strategic importance of the move and the government’s commitment to expanding relations with African nations.
The establishment of the Ukrainian Embassy in Accra is part of a broader initiative set by President Volodymyr Zelensky to open new embassies across Africa. Minister Kuleba emphasized that the expansion is integral to Ukraine’s strategy of fostering ties with African countries, promoting a Ukrainian-African renaissance, and countering the influence of Russia on the global stage.
While awaiting the appointment of an ambassador, the Ukrainian Embassy in Ghana will operate at the level of a charge d’affaires. Its responsibilities encompass a comprehensive range of functions, including developing political contacts, strengthening economic ties, and providing consular services to both Ukrainian and Ghanaian citizens.
Minister Kuleba disclosed that Rwanda, Mozambique, and Botswana are next in line to witness the Ukrainian flag being raised over new embassies. The overarching plan involves the opening of ten new embassies in total across the African continent.
This diplomatic expansion underscores Ukraine’s strategic vision to enhance its global presence and engage more actively with regions that hold geopolitical significance. The move aligns with Ukraine’s broader foreign policy goals and reflects a commitment to fostering mutually beneficial relationships in Africa.
