Here’s The Role the US Air Force Will Be Playing in Ghana’s Helicopter Crash Investigation
The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has confirmed that the United States Air Force will provide advisory support in the investigation of the Z9 helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives on August 6, 2025.
In a statement issued on August 25, Dr Forson, who also serves as Minister of Finance, announced the official commencement of the Investigation Board’s work. The board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator and includes members from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana).
He stressed that visiting investigators from the US Air Force will assist the board with technical advice. The board also has the authority to engage additional local and international experts where necessary to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.
According to the ministry, a preliminary team established on the day of the crash has completed its evidence-gathering assignment and will submit its findings to the board to aid the broader investigation.
The board has been given 30 days to conclude its work and deliver a full report on the causes and circumstances surrounding the tragic crash. The findings are expected to guide both preventive measures and policy decisions for the Ghana Air Force.
