The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Women’s Hockey Team continued their impressive run in the ongoing Greater Accra Hockey League with a 2-1 victory over Extinguishers in a thrilling encounter.
The much-anticipated clash, played at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium, drew attention from fans and retired national stars alike, many of whom stayed glued to their seats, offering commentary throughout the game. While many expected a GRA win, the quality on display lived up to its billing.
Star striker Vivian Narkuor once again proved her class, breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute with a field goal. She doubled GRA’s lead in the 36th minute, converting a penalty corner with precision to register her sixth goal of the season.
Despite GRA’s dominance, Extinguishers’ goalkeeper Precious Osei put on a superb display, denying several attempts and keeping the scoreline respectable. Her efforts ensured that GRA could not run riot as they often do.
Extinguishers managed to pull one back in the fourth quarter after a defensive error by GRA awarded them a penalty corner, and Racheal Bamfo made no mistake, calmly converting the chance to give her side a consolation goal.
Speaking after the game, GRA midfielder Gertrude admitted it was a tough match: “It is difficult when playing against an equally good opponent. We’ve played Extinguishers on several occasions both on national and club assignments, so we know each other’s style of play. But nonetheless, the most important thing is our 3 points, and we have it, so we are grateful.”
GRA’s Head Coach Ida Marmon Halm expressed mild dissatisfaction with her team’s approach despite the win, “We did not play according to the pattern of the game. We’ll go back, re-strategize, and come back stronger to keep our title defense on track.”With her brace, Vivian Narkuor now leads the scoring chart with six goals, continuing her outstanding form as GRA aim to retain their league title.
