Vice President Resumes Duties Post-Recovery in London
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang returned to Ghana on May 22, 2025, after receiving medical treatment in London. She was warmly welcomed at the airport by President John Dramani Mahama, government officials, and family, following her illness on March 28, 2025.
Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude for her recovery, crediting divine mercy, the medical staff at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), and President Mahama’s support. She specifically praised Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim, for his dedication during her hospitalization abroad.
President Mahama celebrated her return, noting her youthful appearance and readiness to resume work. He advised her to rest initially and highlighted the need to enhance Ghana’s healthcare system, particularly UGMC, to handle such emergencies locally in the future.
With the Vice President’s return and the end of her medical leave, she’s thankful to Ghanaians for their prayers and acknowledges the support of the embassy staff in London. Opoku-Agyemang is expected to recommence official duties shortly.
