The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urgently requested the Ministry of Education to release outstanding funds to facilitate the completion of post-examination processes for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In a press release dated December 9, 2024, WAEC confirmed that the marking of essay and practical components had been successfully completed. However, the scanning of objective test cards, originally scheduled for November 1 to November 30, has been delayed due to a malfunction of the scanners used for the process.
The examination body revealed that it is awaiting the payment of an outstanding debt of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education. These funds are essential to repair the faulty scanners and continue with the scanning and final stages of the post-examination activities. WAEC emphasized that the delay in receiving these funds is affecting the timely release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
WAEC also appealed to examination officials and suppliers for patience, assuring them that payments for their services would be made as soon as the funds are released. The Council further warned the public to disregard unofficial announcements circulating on social media about the release date of the results, stating that the results would be published only after the technical challenges are resolved.
Signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, the statement reassured the public that the council is working tirelessly to resolve the issues and ensure the results are released without further delays.
