WAEC Blames Financial Challenges for WASSCE Results Delay
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that financial challenges are behind the delay in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on December 19, John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, disclosed that unresolved debts have hindered the maintenance of essential equipment needed for the grading process.
“The results are not ready due to unresolved financial obligations. Our scanners, critical for marking objective questions, are malfunctioning, and technicians have withdrawn their services over an outstanding GH₵25 million debt,” Kapi explained. He added that while private schools pay fees directly, public school candidates rely on government funding, which has yet to be disbursed.
The delay has prompted the Minority in Parliament to demand that the Finance and Education Ministers address the issue. They seek urgent action to settle the debt and expedite the results’ release, emphasizing the impact on students awaiting their grades.
WAEC has appealed for swift financial commitments to resolve the matter, ensuring the timely release of the WASSCE results and avoiding disruptions to future examination processes. Stakeholders hope for immediate government intervention to prevent further delays.
