Veteran Officer Appointed as Ghana’s Police Chief

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Ghana’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The appointment, announced on March 13, 2025, marks a critical shift in Ghana’s security leadership.

COP Yohuno, born on December 27, 1965, brings over 40 years of law enforcement expertise to this pivotal role. His career began in 1985 when he joined the Ghana Police Service as a lance corporal. Over the decades, he has earned recognition for his dedication and leadership, steadily rising through the ranks.

Most recently, Yohuno served as Deputy IGP in charge of Operations, a position he held since July 2024 under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This role highlighted his strategic insights and operational effectiveness.
