A bizarre incident in Rio de Janeiro sees a woman trying to take out a loan using a dead man’s body, leading to her arrest and a police investigation.

In Rio de Janeiro, a woman attempted to take out a loan of R$17,000 (USD $3,400) by taking the corpse of an elderly man into a bank. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was captured on film by suspicious bank employees who called the police. The woman, identified as Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, claimed to be the man’s niece and was seen holding his head up and asking him to sign loan papers.

The man, identified as 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga, had actually been dead for a few hours. Police Chief Fábio Luiz stated, “She tried to pretend to get him to sign the loan. He already entered the bank dead.” The police are investigating whether Nunes is indeed related to Braga and if other individuals were involved in the attempted fraud. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Nunes could be charged with theft through fraud or embezzlement.

The bizarre video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread astonishment and disbelief. The authorities have taken Braga’s body for further investigation, and the case continues to unfold as the police delve into the circumstances surrounding his death and the attempted loan fraud.
