Actress Urges Policy Think Tank and Citizens to Protest Erratic Power Supply

Renowned Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has made a passionate plea to IMANI Africa, a prominent policy think tank, to lead a protest against the current government’s handling of the persistent power outages, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” in the country.

The call to action follows a series of recent power cuts that have left citizens frustrated and concerned about the inconsistent electricity supply. Ms. Nelson, known for her advocacy work, previously organized a successful protest in 2015, dubbed #DumsorMustStop, targeting the administration of former President John Mahama over similar energy challenges.

IMANI Ghana, having played a crucial role in the 2015 protest, is once again being called upon to spearhead efforts to address the dumsor crisis. The actress expressed her eagerness to join forces with IMANI, highlighting their past collaboration’s impact on raising awareness about the adverse effects of power cuts on daily life.

The most recent demonstration took place in the Ashanti region, where residents in Kumasi organized a nighttime vigil to voice their discontent with the unpredictable power supply and frequent unannounced blackouts. Hundreds of protesters participated in the march, echoing the sentiments of energy experts and citizens who have criticized the government’s management of the electricity situation.

Ms. Nelson’s statement on social media emphasized her readiness to participate in the vigil, awaiting IMANI’s invitation to join efforts aimed at addressing the pressing dumsor challenges facing Ghana.
