Despite their efforts, the group falls short of the world record for the largest gathering of people with the same name.

706 people named Kyle recently converged in the city of Kyle, Texas. Their mission? To break the world record for the largest gathering of people with the same name. However, despite their valiant efforts, the Kyles seemed to fall short of clinching the coveted title.

The Kyles of all ages assembled at a park in the suburbs of Austin, hoping to etch their names into the annals of history. The city of Kyle organized the event, which shares its name with the participants. The excitement was palpable as they posed for a group photo taken by a drone.

But alas, it was not meant to be. The current record-holder remains a town in Bosnia, where 2,325 people named Ivan gathered in 2017, as verified by Guinness World Records. The Kyles’ attempt fell short, but their spirit remained undeterred.

This wasn’t the first time the Kyles had rallied for their cause. Last year, the official count at what has become known as the “Gathering of the Kyles” stood at 1,490. The fast-growing Texas city of Kyle, located about 37 miles south of Austin, played host to this unique event. Interestingly, Kyle isn’t a chart-topping name in the United States. According to the Social Security Administration’s data from 2023, it ranked 416th among male names. In comparison, Ivan held a more respectable position at 153rd.
