Akonoba on Earning Through Cross-Dressing
Content creator Kelvin Sampane Addo, popularly known as Akonoba, has revealed how cross-dressing on social media helps him earn a living. In an interview on the Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso, he shared that his income comes from wearing wigs, women’s clothes, and collaborating with brands for advertisements.
Akonoba clarified that while his comedic characters, including the old woman role, don’t directly generate income, they build his audience base. He earns money through paid brand promotions when he dons feminine outfits. “TikTok doesn’t pay me, but companies pay me to advertise when I wear wigs and clothes,” he said.
Initially, his choice to create feminine content faced disapproval from his parents, leading to misunderstandings. As the firstborn, this strained their relationship, but Akonoba moved out to ease tensions. Over time, as his popularity grew, his family softened their stance.
Support from viewers and the absence of negativity surrounding his work helped change his parents’ perception. “When people started reaching out to my dad and explained what I was doing, he understood it was just my job,” Akonoba concluded.
