Daddy Lumba and Ambolley Honoured at National Awards 2024

Legendary Ghanaian musicians Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley were honoured with Grand Medals at the 2024 National Honours and Awards for their exceptional contributions to the creative arts industry. The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, also celebrated actress Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante and renowned filmmaker Kwaw Paintsil Ansah, who received the prestigious Order of the Volta (Member).

The National Honours and Awards, established in 1960 by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, recognize individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to Ghana’s development. The initiative continues to highlight excellence, creativity, and dedication in various fields. This year’s awards also featured the newly introduced Presidential Honours for Distinguished Service, created by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2023 to acknowledge extraordinary contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spanning multiple categories, including the Grand Medal, Order of the Volta (Member and Companion), and Order of the Star of Ghana, the awards highlight the enduring impact of honourees. President Akufo-Addo praised the resilience and unity displayed by Ghanaians and their international partners in safeguarding lives during the pandemic.

The 2024 ceremony underscored the vital role of the arts in national development, shining a spotlight on creative legends like Daddy Lumba and Ambolley, whose legacies continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians.
