Empower Playgrounds, a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to enhancing education in Ghana and West Africa, has taken a significant step towards achieving its mission. On February 3, 2025, the organization donated 10 desktop computers and a RACHEL plus device to Dedenya Basic School in the Asutuare district of the Eastern region.

With a background in providing innovative and sustainable solutions to improve education, Empower Playgrounds has been working tirelessly to bridge the technology gap in rural schools. The donation of computers and RACHEL plus device to Dedenya Basic School is a testament to the organization’s commitment to empowering young minds.

These computers will provide students with access to digital resources, enhance their learning experience, and equip them with the skills necessary to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.

The RACHEL (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Learning) plus device can go anywhere in the world and wirelessly deliver free digital educational content to nearby tablets, laptops, or smartphones with no internet or data plans required. RACHEL has been taken to over 53 countries since its creation, serving students in rural villages, townships, and even prisons

The headteacher of Dedenya Basic School, Madam Vivian Asabia Suglo, expressed her gratitude to Empower Playgrounds, led by Country Director Isaac Darko-Mensah, for the life-changing initiative.

“We are overwhelmed with joy and appreciation for this generous donation. Empower Playgrounds has set a shining example for others to follow, and we hope that corporate entities will take note and support us in our quest for quality education,” she said.

Mr. Francis Xavier, of the Schools Inspection Secretariat in Asutuare, also commended Empower Playgrounds for their support.

“We are grateful for the collaboration and look forward to working together to improve education in our district. This donation is a significant step towards achieving our goals, and we appreciate Empower Playgrounds’ commitment to enhancing education in Ghana,” he noted.

The chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Mr. Benjamin Manyeh, relayed the community’s excitement for the donation. “We are thrilled to receive these computers, and we assure Empower Playgrounds that we will take good care of them. We will put in place strict maintenance measures to ensure that they serve their purpose and benefit our students for years to come,” he said.
