Ghana Coach Otto Addo Aims to Revitalize Black Stars

Acknowledges Team’s Recent Struggles Ahead of Nigeria Friendly.

Ghana coach Otto Addo is determined to rejuvenate the Black Stars as he acknowledges the team’s current slump ahead of their international friendly against Nigeria in Marrakesh. Following their disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they suffered a group stage exit in Ivory Coast, the Black Stars have plummeted out of the top 10 in Africa. Addo recognises the consecutive setbacks of 2021 and 2023, which have contributed to a significant decline in the team’s stature. Tasked with rebuilding the team under a long-term contract, Addo is resolute in his mission.

“If you look at the data, we are at a very, very low point. But obviously, we were very, very unlucky how we went out of the African Cup of Nations,” he stated. “I think in Africa the countries move closer together, it wasn’t like a Cup of Nations where we saw like this team or that team is better than the other so it’s still quite close but we have to be honest to ourselves.”

“In the last two AFCONs, we didn’t do so well, we had problems with the so-called little countries and this is one of our targets to get better in these games, to dominate these games, in the end, it is impossible to predict these games but the aim of the coaching staff is to increase our winning probability and for this, we have ideas and plans that we want to use every time that we get together to work on these ideas and to execute them on the field.”
