Ghana Faces Critical Energy Crisis, Says MP John Jinapor

The Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, has raised alarm over Ghana’s dwindling fuel stock for power generation. Speaking to Joy News, the NDC MP and energy expert revealed that the country has only five hours’ worth of fuel reserves, posing a serious energy crisis.

Jinapor stated, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He added that Ghana’s current heavy fuel oil and diesel supply would not last beyond two days, warning of an imminent power generation shutdown if fuel orders are not placed immediately.

“I have bad news for you. As of today, the confirmation we are receiving is that we have only five hours’ worth of fuel left,”

Jinapor criticized the outgoing Nana Akufo-Addo-led government for failing to purchase fuel despite repeated warnings from the NDC transition team. “This administration has not placed any fuel orders as we speak,” he said, attributing the crisis to poor planning and lack of action.

The energy concerns come amidst Ghana’s leadership transition, following the swearing-in of President John Mahama on January 7. Jinapor called for urgent measures to secure fuel supplies and avert the looming crisis.
