Alhaji Ayaana Yakubu Gifted Car and Cash After Walking from Kumasi to Accra for Mahama’s Inauguration
Alhaji Ayaana Yakubu, the 65-year-old who walked over 250 kilometers from Kumasi to Accra to celebrate President John Dramani Mahama’s January 7 inauguration, has been rewarded with a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed sum of money, and GH¢5,000 worth of shopping vouchers.
The heartwarming gesture was made possible by an anonymous philanthropist and facilitated by Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), a renowned broadcaster and showbiz personality. At the presentation ceremony, Alhaji Ayaana, visibly emotional, received the car keys and explored his new vehicle, marking a touching moment of recognition for his patriotic act.
This isn’t the first time Alhaji Ayaana has inspired the nation through symbolic journeys. In 1997, he famously walked to celebrate the second-term inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings. In 1999, he organised a 16-kilometer peace walk in Tamale to promote unity and health awareness. His latest walk underscores his commitment to Ghana’s democracy and national unity.
KOD shared the ceremony on his Instagram, praising the anonymous donor who made the initiative possible. “This afternoon, I had the honor of presenting Mr. Yakubu…with a brand-new Renault car, an undisclosed amount of money, and shopping vouchers worth GH¢5,000 from Nineteen57,” KOD wrote.
