Pan African Convention 2024 Abruptly Cancelled Hours Before Kickoff

In an unexpected turn of events, the highly anticipated Pan African event, The Convention 2024, slated to occur at Independence Square in Accra, Ghana, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, has been abruptly canceled just hours before its scheduled commencement. The cancellation coincided with Ghana’s Constitution Day.

The New Africa Foundation, the organizers of the event, released a statement citing government intervention as the reason behind the sudden cancellation. According to the organizers, all preparations were in place, and the Independence Square was filled with thousands of eager patrons and distinguished speakers, including Professor P. L. O. Lumumba, Julius Malema, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, and Peter Obi, when the directive to cancel reached them.

Expressing their shock and disappointment, the New Africa Foundation revealed that government approval for the event had been secured as early as November 2023. The cancellation came as a devastating blow to both the organizers and the attendees, many of whom had traveled from various parts of Ghana and around the world to participate in this historic Pan African gathering.

“We regret to inform you that the Government has cancelled the above Pan African Event, which was to take place today at Independence Square in Accra, Ghana. All the special guests have arrived, and thousands of people have come from all over Ghana as well as around the globe for this historic event,” the statement read.

The New Africa Foundation issued an apology to the disappointed patrons, emphasizing that the situation was beyond their control. The unexpected cancellation has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding the government’s decision and the impact on the Pan African community.

As the Pan African community grapples with the sudden turn of events, further details regarding the government’s decision and any potential rescheduling of The Convention 2024 are eagerly awaited.
