Residents Devastated as Fire Ravages Tantra Hills Slum Taking 52 Kiosks to the Ground
A massive fire outbreak at Tantra Hills on Monday, February 17, 2025, has destroyed 52 kiosks, leaving dozens of residents homeless.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to contain the blaze, but not before the fire had engulfed all belongings, including cash savings, household items, and business assets.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started due to an electrical fault in one of the kiosks, which ignited a gas explosion, spreading rapidly through the densely packed community.
“I was at work when I got the call. By the time I arrived, everything was gone,” a distraught resident lamented.
Another victim, who had been saving ₵4,000 in loans and susu contributions, said she lost all her money to the fire.

Firefighters faced significant delays reaching the scene due to heavy traffic and the lack of a nearby fire station.
“Tantra Hills, Achimota, Dome, Kwabenya, and Taifa all lack fire stations. We had to respond from Abelemkpe, which slowed us down,” explained ADO 1 Alex King Nartey, who led the firefighting operation.

The affected residents are now calling on the government and charitable organizations to support them in rebuilding their lives.
