Police intensify efforts to apprehend perpetrators of fatal shooting.

In a disturbing incident, police in the Ashanti Region are actively searching for the individuals responsible for the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman who attended a New Year’s Eve church service. The tragic event unfolded as the young woman, identified as Lydia Ayampali, was traveling in a tricycle (popularly known as “Pragya”) with two other passengers shortly after the service in Kenyase-Abrem.

According to reports, the shooting occurred when the tricycle rider picked up the passengers, and the assailant, seen firing indiscriminately on the streets, targeted the vehicle. Lydia Ayampali sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the attack, prompting an urgent trip to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

The tricycle rider, identified as Abubakar, recounted the harrowing scene, describing how the suspect fired into the motorcycle, hitting the deceased in the head. Despite immediate efforts to seek medical assistance, Ayampali’s injuries proved fatal.

The incident has left residents of the Kwabre East Municipal area in shock, and calls for justice are mounting. Family members have requested privacy during this difficult time.

Local police have initiated investigations, taking statements from family members and individuals considered persons of interest, including the tricycle rider. However, an official statement from the police regarding the matter is pending.
