‘You don’t expect us to spend five minutes on an arrogant nominee’ – Afenyo-Markin
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has warned that the NPP Caucus on the Appointments Committee will not spend more than five minutes vetting nominees who display arrogance or disrespect.
His statement comes amid tensions between the Majority and Minority Caucuses, with the NDC accusing the NPP of disregarding parliamentary procedures during ministerial vetting.
Afenyo-Markin criticized disruptions in the vetting process, insisting that nominees must demonstrate humility and preparedness.
Nominees need to understand that they are coming into public office. Their conduct, humility, and attitude will make the process smoother”
Referring to Minister of Health-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, he noted that his vetting lasted just 30 minutes and emphasized that disrespectful behavior would not be tolerated.
He also warned against nominees who insult key figures such as the Chief Justice or the former President, adding, “Those who come prepared and show respect will receive the same in return.”
Afenyo-Markin further urged the Appointments Committee chair to resist pressure from political extremists seeking to influence the vetting process.
