Naa Koryoo Wants GWL to end Kasoa water crisis
Kasoa is experiencing one of its worst water shortages in recent years, with some communities enduring nearly three months without access to clean water. The crisis has forced thousands to walk long distances or rely on expensive private water vendors, adding financial strain to already struggling households.
A Long-Standing Problem Worsened by Neglect
With a population exceeding 250,000, Kasoa’s water infrastructure has failed to keep up with rapid urban expansion. The Weija Water Treatment Plant, responsible for supplying parts of the area, is overstretched, leaving many communities without a reliable supply. Poor infrastructure, illegal connections, and weak policy enforcement have only worsened the situation.
Despite previous government interventions, long-term solutions have remained elusive, making this crisis a recurring challenge for residents. The lack of investment in new pipelines and proper distribution systems has left many without a stable water supply.
MP Naa Koryoo’s Plan to Fix the Crisis
In response to the worsening situation, Awutu Senya East MP, Dr. Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, has taken proactive steps to address the issue. She has engaged Ghana Water Limited (GWL) and other stakeholders to develop both immediate and long-term solutions.
Dr. Koryoo is pushing for urgent reforms, including infrastructure expansion, improved distribution networks, and stricter regulation of illegal water connections. As a temporary measure, she plans to deploy water tankers to the most affected areas.
While residents remain hopeful, the success of these initiatives will require collaboration between policymakers, utility providers, and local authorities to ensure lasting solutions.
