The Greater Accra Hockey Association (GAHA) concluded Round 1 of the 2024 Salpholda Hockey League with Week 7 fixtures, featuring a keenly contested match between Army and Police Men at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch.

The first two quarters ended goalless, with Army earning four penalty corners and missing a direct penalty by Maxwell Osei, while Police managed only one penalty corner.

Three minutes into the third quarter, Army took the lead with a field goal by Eric Dortse, followed by a second goal from team captain Stephen Asamoah before the quarter’s end.

The League Leaders managed to break Army’s defense in the fourth quarter for a consolation goal, but Army sealed their victory with a third field goal by David Simson.

Army Coach Salya Nsabini praised his team for sticking to their tactics, suggesting their strong play would send a message to future opponents.

He acknowledged the tactical prowess of the Police team, which forced Army to adapt their strategy each quarter, ultimately leading to their win.

Captain Asamoah expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and their commitment to defending their title and achieving their African dream. He urged fans and supporters to continue backing Team Army.

Police Coach Samuel Marfo expressed disappointment over their first defeat, attributing it to a lapse in concentration. He vowed to regroup and come back stronger in the second round.

Police Captain Charles Abbiw echoed this sentiment, noting that their failure to maintain concentration and execute their game plan allowed Army to dominate the last two quarters.
