Caught with his pants down

A robbery suspect in New York was arrested over a year later after wearing same ‘multicoloured’ briefs on his trousers. The incident occurred at a tobacco shop in Queens on September 14, 2022.

Three masked men entered the store, pointing guns at employees and customers. The third robber emptied the cash register and stole merchandise and employees’ cellphones. Surveillance videos showed the third robber wearing brightly coloured briefs with a large letter R in white and the year 1990 in yellow.

An anonymous tipster provided the suspect’s Instagram handle, and the caller also informed police that the robbers had tried to sell their stolen merchandise at another location. Detectives reviewed video footage from the sale location and identified the suspect based on his Instagram account, the video from the merchandise sale spot, and photos from prior arrests.

The 30-year-old suspect was arrested by a joint task force and is awaiting arraignment in federal court in Brooklyn. The other two robbery suspects remain at large.
